Report Published on European Commission's Telehealth Workshop

Determining the status of e-health procurement was the topic of a "procuring for health benefits" telehealth workshop held in November by the European Commission's ICT for Health unit. The workshop, conducted during the World of Health IT e-health Conference, attempted to evaluate the "state of the art and lessons learned" in e-health procurement, according to E-Health Media.

The workshop's findings will be used by the European Commission to support their 2009 plans for significant telemedicine deployments and is expected to be included in a telemedicine guide.

The workshop examined the experiences and challenges encountered daily in the efforts of telemedicine professionals "to improve patient experiences and the quality of care."  The participants also evaluated the impact of telemedicine in "servicing the strategic and efficiency goals of the user's hospitals."
